A MAN of Lusaka has  rejected his wife at Chelstone court because she does not know how to cook among other reasons.
But his wife, Josephine Lungu, 26, pleaded for forgiveness from her husband Tomas Lungu, 27, saying she loves him and cannot live without him.
“I love my husband although he rejected me in front of my relatives. This is why I brought him to court so that he can reject me here, though I’m ready to reconcile with him if he is willing,” she said.
And in his statement Lungu  told the court that problems in their 8-year marriage worsened this year when he told Josephine that she doesn’t know how to cook.
“She stopped cooking for me and I have been cooking by myself since the time I complained about her not knowing how to cook,” Lungu said.
He said Josephine is a problematic woman who always created confusion in their marriage.
Lungu said he has never had peace in his marriage and this is the reason why he made an agreement with Josephine to take her back to her relatives if she causes more trouble.
“I’m tired of being with this woman. This is the reason why I took her back to her relatives when she breached the agreement we made,” he said.
Lungu further said Josephine’s relatives told him that there was no marriage between the two as he did not pay dowry and that he was advised to pay dowry if he was to have custody of his two children.
The matter was presided over by senior presiding magistrate Hope Mwila sitting with senior court magistrate Bertha Zulu and Lewis Mumba.
Earlier in her statement, Josephine told the court in a matter where she sued Lungu for marriage reconciliation that all was well when they got married but problems started when Lungu stopped playing his fatherly role.
“My husband does not provide for his family despite having money which he usually hides from me. He also tells me to be taking porridge as a meal. How can I survive on porridge only?” She asked.
Josephine also said Lungu has on several occasions threatened to murder her and throw her at Mutumbi Cemetery.
In passing judgment, Magistarte Zulu failed to reconcile the couple as the duo was not legally married.
Josephine’s relatives were advised to sue for elopement as Lungu did not get permission from Josephine’s parents before cohabiting with her.
The court also advised Josephine to sue for child support so that Lungu can start supporting his two children aged five and three.
