A BOY of unknown age in Katete has allegedly committed suicide after failing last year’s Grade 12 examinations.
Eastern province deputy commissioner of Police Hudson Namachila said the boy failed to handle the news after checking his results on a mobile phone.
Mr Namachila told journalists yesterday in Chipata that it was sad the boy decided to prematurely end his life by hanging himself on Sunday in Katete’s Chibolya township.
He said the matter was reported to police by the deceased’s neighbour, Henry Phiri.
Mr Namachila said the incident happened between 03:00 hours-06:00 hours after the boy checked his results on a Zamtel mobile line.
Mr Namachila said the motive of the boy to hang himself is failure to handle examination results.
He said police visited the scene and did not suspect any foul play, describing the death as purely suicide.
The body of the deceased is in St Francis Hospital mortuary.
Mr Namachila warned pupils against taking their own lives when they fail examinations because there is a second chance in life.
He said students should not condemn themselves by committing suicide when they fail examinations.
