Government has expressed sadness at the death of Chief Mukutuma of the Lamba speaking people in Lufwanyama District on the Copperbelt saying he was a dedicated leader eager to bring tangible development to his people.
Mufulira District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe has described the late chief as the man of the people who was the servant to his subjects despite their social standing in the chiefdom.
Mr. Kabwe says Chief Mukutuma was a gallant and patriotic traditional leader committed in ensuring that the country’s traditional norms and culture are observed by the younger generation by sensitizing and teaching them the importance of culture.
Mr. Kabwe has told QFM News in a statement that Zambia has lost a great son of the soil who was instrumental in promoting the Lamba culture among the young people on the Copperbelt for them to know their origin in terms of the Lamba origin.
He says Chief Mukutuma was a selfless leader who was always there for his people in any situation because he was eager to see that Lufwanyama becomes a better place by lobbying for investors in the emerald mining sector in order to create employment opportunities for the local people.
He adds that the death of Chief Mukutuma is a big blow to the Lamba people and the nation at large because traditional leaders play a cardinal role in the development of the nation.
He has since urged the Lamba people to look up to God for wisdom and guidance in this trying moment as he is the only source of strength and comfort to them.
