African champions Zambia will be encouraged by news that the country is leading the way in ticket sales having so far accounted for 50, 000 tickets.
According to the local organizing committee Ethiopia is second with 30, 000 tickets while Algeria is third accounting for 15, 000 tickets.
“Zambia leads the way with 50,000 tickets sold while Ethiopia is second with 30,000. Algeria is placed third with 15,000 ticket sales,” reads the statement.
“The remaining countries in the tournament, apart from South Africa, have only bought a combined total of 15,000 tickets.”
The organizing committee of the 2013 AFCON has bemoaned the low sales that were anticipated to have hit 500, 000 by now but only stands at 300, 000.
From the 300,000 tickets sold already, the committee announced, 38,000 are for the opening game and 20,000 are for the final. Both are to be held in Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.
Zambia will be based in Nelspruit where they will face off against Nigeria, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso.
