Politics Of The Belly

ALLOW me space in your column to air out my views on political defections.Today in Zambia, it has become a norm for politicians to jump from the opposition party to the ruling party for various reasons.

This tendency does not only border on morality but also gobbles huge national resources that could have been channelled to develop this great nation.

Our brother George Mpombo though he is also a culprit would say ‘Politics of the belly’. This trend if not checked will deplete our national coffers through unnecessary by-elections.

MMD had identified traitors that had been trekking to Plot One looking for jobs.

Many people have demonised the MMD for putting its foot down against traitors.

It is better for MMD to remain 15 and push in one direction than being 55 and push in different directions.

MMD may head into oblivion but it is unacceptable for its Members of Parliament to ditch the party and join the ruling party on personal gains.

Many defectors called PF and its leader Michael Sata all sorts of names and incited electorates in the villages not to vote for Sata. Politics is a game of numbers; everyone is embraced regardless of morals.

Some people have in the past uttered different contradicting statement contrary to what they are doing today.

I wish we could keep all statements once made over a period of time and use them to gauge his or her morality. Anybody who fails this test should not vye for any public office.

Zambia should come up with laws that would bar a person who caused a by-election unnecessarily from contesting.

This way, we would help reduce the number of by-elections held per year. Another law should bar the incumbent President from poaching members of Parliament from the opposition kraal.

Henry Fayol came up with 14 principles. One of the principles is called Unity of command, meaning a subordinate should only have one superior.

A poached MP will have two superiors and would be more loyal to only one of them.

Electorate have a role to play in discouraging political prostitution.

They can use their voting right to reject political prostitutes.

We are tired of by-elections.
