THE MATERO local court heard how a 22-year-old was impregnated by a 52-year-old
man who later requested for a paternity test.
Paul Simango, of Helen Kaunda, demanded a paternity test after he was sued for child maintenance by Cindy Mwansa.
Cindy told senior court magistrate Sharon Sichone that she started dating Simango in 2011 and he claimed he was not married but had three children. Cindy said Simango even started paying for her rentals after her sister threw her out due to her late-comings.
“He used to take me home very late, mostly it was after mid-night and this really annoyed my elder sister,”she said.
The court heard that Cindy and Simango saw each other almost on a daily basis and that Simango would always leave in the wee hours of the morning.
She told the court that she only learnt that he was a married man after falling pregnant.
“When I told him that I was pregnant, he offered me K800 to have an abortion and advised me not to tell my older sister or any of my relatives,”she said.
Cindy said from the time she fell pregnant, Simango has been distant and does not support her financially despite the baby now being eleven months old.
“I ask the court to help me because my child is now eleven months and the father does not even bother to know the welfare of his son or even buy food and clothes for him,”Cindy said.
Meanwhile, Simango told the court that he met Cindy at Club Zone in 2011 and that he just wanted to be sure that he was the father to the child because Cindy had many boyfriends.
The court ordered Simango to pay K500 every month as child maintenance and advised him to go for a paternity test whenever he was ready.
