ANGLICAN Diocese of Central Zambia Bishop Derek Kamukwamba was on Tuesday summoned to Ndola Central Police station over allegations of money laundering activities involving church funds.
According to police sources, Bishop Kamukwamba was accompanied to the police by the Dean of the Anglican Cathedral of Holy Nativity, a Fr Zulu, Canon Fr Chawelwa, the diocese treasurer, a Fr Tembo, the diocese secretary, a Mrs Munde and the his union president whose name was not disclosed.
“The bishop reported to the police and the police told him that the charges that the church members had raised were heavy and asked that they should even dialogue because he was going to be arrested once the case went to court. The church members also want the bishop’s nephew, Stabbs, to be arrested for defilement,” the source said.
The source said the church members have rejected Bishop Kamukwamba and wanted him prosecuted for money laundering because he had allegedly misappropriated church funds.
The police sources said that Bishop Kamukwamba would be called again but did not indicate when.
Bishop Kamukwamba refused to give a comment when contacted over the matter.
“Why can’t you call the police and ask them?” he said.
But when he was told that the police had confirmed that he was summoned to the police on Tuesday, Bishop Kamukwamba said that he did not have a comment.
“The answer is no comment, I have no comment, I have told you, no comment. Just go ahead and write what you want, there is no comment from me,” said Bishop Kamukwamba.
