ZAMBIA does not deserve to be called a Christian nation, says Costain Chilikwazi.
And Chilikwazi says individuals that illegally continued holding on to ministerial positions when Parliament was dissolved in 2016 should pay back the money they got prior to the general elections.
“The current happenings in Zambia where the current government is using State machinery like the Zambia police and the Judiciary to brutalise, victimise and oppress individuals with opposing views only goes to show that the current PF leadership has failed to practice what they preach. They have failed to embrace the values and principles of Christianity…they have failed to walk they talk,” Chilikwazi, a former PF official and now UPND member, said.
“We have seen political figures that hold different views from those of the PF leadership being victimised at the instigation of State House. And I strongly feel that Zambia does not deserve to be called a Christian nation. The late president Frederick Chiluba declared Zambia as a Christian nation with a view to ensuring that citizens embrace Christian values and principles. But that is not what we are seeing in the current government.”
He stated that there was need to amend the Republican Constitution and remove the Christian nation declaration clause from its preamble because the current political leadership had failed to live up to that aspiration.
“It is for this reason that I am calling upon the Church mother bodies, civil society organisations and members of parliament to push for the amendment of Republican Constitution so that we can do away with Christian nation clause. I mean people want to pretend to be Christians when they have failed to match their words with actions…they are being hypocrites. We do not deserve to be called a Christian nation,” said Chilikwazi, a former Kapiri Mposhi PF district youth vice chairman.
