NEVERS Mumba says he sees his incarceration as a sacrifice for the nation. Mumba was last Wednesday jailed three months simple imprisonment for giving false information to a public officer foĺlowing his visit to ZNBC just after the 2016 elections to protest over the manner the public broadcaster was airing information around the presidential election petition.
He was also charged with tresspassing on ZNBC but he was acquitted on this case. In a statement through MMD vice-president Reuben Sambo, Mumba indicated that he was in high spirits at Mwembeshi Maximun Correctional Facility.
He stated that he remained strengthened by Zambians’ prayers and personal visits from his family, friends, MMD members, people from Civil Society and his political colleagues from Alliance for Democracy and Development, Peoples Party, Movement For National Transformation, Rainbow Party, United Party for National Development, among others.
Mumba said Easter was a period when the highest sacrifice for humanity was made.
“We, too, must find that place to sacrifice for others and make their lives count. He (Mumba) sees his incarceration as a sacrifice for the nation. He further notes that prison is the place from where spiritual fathers like the Apostle Paul wrote much of the New Testament,” reads the statement.
Mumba said no one should lose focus over his imprisonment as in the very same way no moment was being wasted during his period of incarceration as he was using it maximally.
According to the statement, Mumba is in unceasing prayer for the nation, the church and that he remains burdened for the souls of men. Mumba remains in custody until tomorrow morning when there will be hearing of his appeal and bail application at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court.
