Opposition National Democratic Congress consultant Chishimba Kambwili was last might rushed to the hospital after suffering discomfort while in detention at Woodlands Police station in Lusaka.
Kambwili has a history of hypertension and diabetes. He was arrested earlier in the day after being charged with 37 counts of criminal offences.
The former government spokesperson and Roan PF MP has recently turned against his former party attacking the central government of grand corruption.
When he was rushed to CfB Hospital in Lusaka, youths belonging to NDC kept vigil on his bedside where he was under close police watch.
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Kambwili and charged him with two counts of obtaining pecuniary advantage and 37 counts of being in possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of Crime.
The Roan Parliamentarian who only arrived in the country Wednesday from South Africa where he had gone to seek medical was welcomed with detention at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport.
ACC Corporate Affairs Officer Jonathan Siame has confirmed the development in a telephone interview.
“I can confirm that the Anti Corruption Commission has arrested Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili and he has been charged for obtaining pecuniary advantage and a further 37 counts of being in possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of Crime. So we have detained him for now and he will appear in court tomorrow” Same said.
He added that “all the offences in question were committed in his capacity as a public officer that is being a Member of Parliament.”
Opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema visited Kambwili yesterday and demanded that police respected his rights and grant him police bond.
