ROAN PF member of parliament Chishimba Kambwili says the ruling party is “damn scared” of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) like rats. And Kambwili has accused Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja of being “drunk with unknown powers”.
Kambwili, the former information minister and PF central committee member who is now NDC consultant charged that the ruling party was “damn scared like rats”.
Speaking whenhe addressed NDC supporters prior to a NEC meeting at the party secretariat in Lusaka yesterday, Kambwili said the fear in the PF was because they had failed to govern the country.
“So you can see that these people are damn scared like rats but we are not going to worry and mind about scared people. And you are only scared if your governance is questionable and you are doing wrong things. It is only people that are scared of their own shadow that have failed to govern and certainly don’t learn. The tricks PF is using today are tricks that MMD used but they lost because today, PF is MMD,” Kambwili said.
“The party in government is targeting us. See today (yesterday), the UPND are in Kasama having a card renewal exercise, the other day, MMD was in North Western, but every time we apply for a permit, we are denied…it clearly shows who they are scared of. They are not scared of UPND, they are telling us themselves. They are not scared of MMD, they are scared of NDC.”
He alleged that the PF had now started employing “tired political tricks” that saw the MMD out of office.
“We saw the bicycles in Rupiah Banda’s government, we saw even the biscuits, sweets being branded Rupiah Banda and that is what we are seeing today – books, bicycles and they think bicycles will vote for them,” Kambwili said.
He has vowed to take the matter to court in which his party had been denied permits to hold mobilisation meetings.
“We are not going to sit and see our rights [being] trampled on. We have decided, through our lawyer, that we are going to court and fight the injustice of refusing to give us permits,” Kambwili said.
“Have you ever seen where you are requested to get a police permit to host a ward meeting? That is what is going on. Our people in Mporokoso were arrested and they are appearing in court for just holding a ward meeting.”
He also his party would find a way of getting the permits to hold meetings.
“There is already a ruling, already a judgment on whether the police should give a go ahead to have a meeting or not and the judgment is very clear – the police are only supposed to be notified. I think Kanganja is drunk with unknown powers, no wonder he can’t even stand in court to testify, look how embarrassed he was over that [Chilufya] Tayali case,” Kambwili said.
“We will make sure that we find a way of making the police give us permits so that we can also mobilize like other parties.”
Kambwili added that his party was going to take part in all by-elections and advised his supporters to avoid violence at all times.
