BOWMAN Lusambo says Lusaka residents wasting their time discussing the billboard ‘welcoming’ him to the capital city have nothing to do.

And Lusambo says he “cried” when he realised that some residents had spent three days discussing the ‘welcome’ billboard instead of discussing issues of national importance.

Pressure from residents forced Lusambo, the Lusaka Province minister, to pull down the billboard bearing his image that was erected to welcome him to Lusaka.

The billboard, mounted about 500 metres from his office between the Ministry of Finance and the High Court in Lusaka, drew widespread condemnation before it was pulled down on Saturday evening.

A day after it was mounted, civil rights activist Brebner Changala posted a picture of the billboard on social media, saying something had gone wrong with the country’s leadership.

Roan PF member of parliament Chishimba Kambwili also condemned the billboard, describing it as embarrassing and immature.

Later, Lusambo, who is an ardent Facebooker, tried to justify the erection of the billboard, which he claimed he had no knowledge about.

And speaking on Hot FM’s ‘Red Hot Breakfast’ on Tuesday, Lusambo said he was shocked that people were discussing the billboard instead of focusing on important national issues.

“I don’t even know why we are still discussing this issue when we have so many things to talk about; drainages, potholes, garbage…. Are we going to discuss this billboard issue again? This is just a sign that some Lusaka residents don’t have anything to do. I have already explained that I did not erect that billboard and it has been pulled down. Should we honestly spend our time discussing this when there are so many things to look at?” asked Lusambo.

“I cried when I realised that some people had spent almost three days discussing this issue about the billboard. Why? Why should we be discussing the billboard when there are so many things to talk about? I don’t need to be on a billboard to show Zambians that I am working. The work I do will speak for itself…I don’t need billboards. That is why I even asked the company that erected it to pull it down.”
