I‘AM available to serve as republican President if Zambians wish so, says former Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba.
Mr Kalaba said that he did not agree with the way the country was currently being run and that someone needed to change things.
He said that the country was in dire need of a liberator to redeem the nation adding that he was there to see to it that Zambia was saved.
Mr Kalaba made the remarks when he featured on Prime Television Station programme dubbed Oxygen of Democracy on Monday evening.
The Bahati lawmaker indicated that he accepted to be a Cabinet Minister on the basis that he would use the portfolio to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
He however said that the Patriotic Front (PF) government was not the right platform for him to fight for the poor as he had thought it would be.
Mr Kalaba, who resigned his Ministerial position this year, accused government of too many anomalies saying that somebody needed to fight the inequalities under the PF government.
When asked whether he was available to be that messiah, Mr Kalaba said that he was available to serve as republican President if called upon.
“There is nothing wrong to be ambitious, yes I’m available to serve if the Zambian people call on me. There is nothing wrong with that,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Kalaba said that it was unacceptable that most shops in the central business district were occupied by foreign nationals while locals had been relegated to the streets.
He charged that poor people were struggling while the rich were taking a glass of wine to attract appetite before every meal.
“No, that is not the reason why I accepted to be Foreign Affairs Minister, I accepted so that I can bridge the gap,” said Mr Kalaba.
