HÀKAINDE Hichilema’s passport should be withdrawn by the government because his foreign trips are meant to destabilise the country, the National Opposition Alliance has charged.
The National Opposition Alliance, a consortium of 16 opposition political parties have appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs to withdraw the passport of the United Party for National Development leader, Mr Hichilema claiming that his recent trips abroad are aimed at destabilising the country.
NOA spokesperson Cosmo Mumba told the Daily Nation that Mr Hichilema was discrediting the reputation of the country to gain sympathy from his associates abroad.
Dr Mumba said that Mr Hichilema was going round mobilising resources for campaigns on the pretext of being victimised by the Zambian government.
“We have information that his recent trips and associations abroad are not in good faith, he intends to paint a bad picture of the current governance system so that he can get financial support and use his connections abroad to develop his political influence both abroad and in Zambia,” Dr Mumba said.
