POLICE in Kabwe have freed two men who were arrested last week for allegedly kissing each other in public, after the duo paid an admission of guilt fine.
The two men were arrested on suspicion that they were involved in a same-sex relationship.
They were found kissing each other in a public place and were later apprehended after some members of the public alerted police.
Central Province police commissioner Standwell Lungu said in an interview in Kabwe yesterday that police charged the duo with a misdemeanour after investigations into the matter.
The two men were being kept at one of the police stations in Kabwe.
“It’s like the two were found kissing each other in a public place somewhere within Kabwe. Police arrested them and we were investigating to establish if they were involved in homosexuality,” Mr Lungu said.
He said the two men were released after they paid an admission of guilt fine for the offence of committing a nuisance in a public place.
Mr Lungu did not, however, divulge the names of the two men.
“They have been charged. They paid an admission of guilt fine and we have released them,” Mr Lungu said.
