FORMER first lady Christine Kaseba is one of the people who rejected the candidature of President Edgar Lungu after the demise of president Michael Sata and it is not surprising that she has decided to politicize her accommodation situation in the spirit of embarrassing and causing spite against the Head of State, Patriotic Front (PF) Lusaka Province youth chairman Kennedy Kamba has charged.
Mr Kamba said it was unfortunate that Dr Kaseba, who attempted to challenge President Lungu soon after the death of her husband, could not appreciate the efforts Government had made to comfortably accommodate her after leaving State House.
Mr Kamba said it was on record that Dr Kaseba had said her late husband did not anoint President Lungu to be the heir to the presidency and her decision to vacate 8 Reedbuck Lodge before the rentals could expire was meant to mount a scorn campaign against the Head of State whom he said she had not accepted.
He told the Daily Nation that the PF youths were not happy that Dr Kaseba even invited her friends from named media house to complain about how she was treated and how emotional she became before storming out of the lodge without informing Government.
He recalled that the former first lady was in the group of individuals who launched a scheme to prevent President Lungu from being elected as PF leader and his subsequent nomination as a candidate in the last presidential election.
Mr Kamba said the PF youths were aware that Dr Kaseba was still working with the same group and that was why she maliciously vacated 8 Reedbuck Lodge so as to create an impression that President Lungu did not care about her. He said it was incorrect for Dr Kaseba to create the impression that she was poor and suffering when the Sata family had a lot of properties some of which they owned even before Mr Sata was elected republican president.
“We are not surprised with the manner Dr Kaseba, the former first lady, has conducted herself because we have not forgotten that she belonged to a clique of individuals that strongly fought President Lungu after the death of president Sata. The clique that did not want President Lungu to lead the country is the same people using Dr Kaseba and this is unfortunate. We are not happy that Dr Kaseba decided to inform her friendly media and not Government that has so far paid about K2.2 million towards her lodging and upkeep. It was our expectation that the former first lady should have the courtesy of discussing this with Government but she elected to create an impression that she was evicted so as to embarrass President Lungu. It is not correct to politicize things like that,” Mr Kamba said.
Mr Kamba stated that Dr Kaseba was sounding bitter in her statements and that Zambians should begin to question her motive of creating antagonism and acrimony between the former first family and the Government.
