THE Patriotic Front has dismissed mounting speculation suggesting the party had sought to present a petition in the High Court seeking to extend President Edgar Lungu’s term of office beyond 2016.

PF Vice Chairperson for Media and Publicity Sunday Chanda says the move in the court’s was not sanctioned by the party and does not serve the best interests of the Head of State.

And Chanda says the ruling party is sure of yet another resounding victory at the polls to resort to such underhand methods of securing another term of office for President Edgar Lungu.

Reacting to a story that caught social media storm last evening over a purported petition in the High Court seeking an extension to the incumbent’s mandate, Chanda says the PF was committed to the promotion and upholding of constitutionalism.

“The Patriotic Front (PF) wishes to distance itself from stories circulating that it has petitioned the High Court to defer the 2016 Elections. Such a petition does not serve the best interests of His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the PF.”
