GOVERNMENT has implored the church to pray for President Lungu to enable him lead the country diligently.
Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Given Lubinda said the church should ‘stand in the gap’ for the Head of State to enable him successfully execute his term of office.
Mr Lubinda said this at the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) east consistory at Saint Paul’s congregation in Linda township.
He said it is unfortunate that some sections of the public are wishing the Head of State ill.
“There are people that are opposing the president’s leadership and this is simply having a negative impact on the country’s development,” he said.
Mr Lubinda said those wishing President Lungu ill are adding more blessings to his life as he is poised for victory in next year’s general elections
He implored Christians to use their resources for evangelism.
“You should use resources for evangelism and never use God to make money,” he said.
The minister further implored the church to assist government in fighting tribalism and hate speech as they are not part of Christian values.
“There is no need for people to focus on tribe as these days, Zambians inter-marry. What is important is that we are all one Zambia,” he said.
UCZ Livingstone east consistory chairperson Lembe Tontela Sivile advised the church and all Zambians in general to participate in the country’s development.
African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC) Reverend, Martin Chama said it is unacceptable that Zambians are concentrating on constructing luxury bars and shops while neglecting the church.
“It is not right that people should build bars, brothels and other structures and yet the church should fail to construct places of worship,” he said.
