ABOUT 1,520 permanent jobs will be created at Kalumbila Mine once the mine starts full operations, Kalumbila Trident Mine assistant general manager Tristan Pascal has said.
Mr Pascal said 4,500 jobs were created during the construction phase of the plant.
“We are now in the final stages of the construction, getting ready for commissioning so that the mine starts operating fully,” he said.
Mr Pascal said this in Kalumbila on Wednesday when North-Western Province minister Dawson Kafwaya visited the mine.
He said the mine will also embark on extensive training to Zambians to enable them start operating the highly-technical equipment that will be used.
“We want to have a high proportion of Zambians here so that they are able to operate these machines because this is very expensive equipment which cost about US$28 million,” Mr Pascal said.
He said the mine will also prioritise Zambians in employment in line with the government policy.
Mr Pascal also said his firm is looking forward to creating a cordial relationship with the government.
And Mr Kafwaya assured the mines that Government will continue creating a conducive environment for investment in the country.
“As Government, our policy, our manifesto is clear on putting more money in people’s pockets and we are there for you to ensure that your investment is protected so that our people can have jobs,” Mr Kafwaya said.
He said Government has a policy to attract investors into the country in order to bring about socio- economic development.
