Our party joins the public and various stakeholders including the board of Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) in condemning primitive behaviour against the media in our country.
As a party that believes in democracy and recognizes the vital role that the media plays in enhancing good governance we can’t turn a blind eye to any form of primitive behaviour towards any media house. We believe that all members of society that seek redress over the operation of any media house should use civilized means.
As a party we have had our own complaints about how some media houses have covered us and our leader Father Frank Bwalya but we have never resorted to any barbaric behaviour in seeking redress. Therefore, we are shocked that some people who even want to stand as president of Zambia can show such impunity and notoriety.
We have always respected the media and engaged them maturely through letters. Therefore, we think that being aggrieved can never justify resorting to conduct that has potential to undermine the work of the media especially state media.
Finally, we wish to urge ZNBC and all media houses operating in Zambia to continue upholding media ethics and professionalism as a sure way to insulate themselves from unwarranted attacks from members of the public especially politicians.
