Former republican president Rupiah Banda is this morning expected to appear in the magistrate court in a case in which he has been charged with abuse of authority of office.
Mr. Banda was yesterday arrested and later released on police bond in connection with a Nigerian oil deal.
This was after the former head of state appeared for interrogation before the government joint investigations team at the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) offices.
Mr. Banda, who is being represented by his lawyers Sakwiba Sikota, late former republican vice president George Kunda’s wife Irene and Professor Patrick Mvunga, was only released after providing two working sureties and paying Kr 500, 000 in his own recognisance And his lawyer Sakwiba Sikota says the truth will be the only defense in his clients’ case.
Interrogations in the matter are scheduled to continue on Thursday 4th April, 2013.
