The Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) has strongly condemned the violent conduct of a Roma Girls Secondary School Teacher Daswell Sichilongo who was captured on camera beating the school’s acting head teacher Sister Emma Chakupaleza.
This followed the decision by Sister Chakupaleza to lock up Sichilongo’s house for failure to pay rentals subsidized at K300 per month.
ZNUT Assistant General Secretary Catherine Chilunda has told QFM News in interview that the union is disappointed and does not condone such behavior.
Ms. Chilunda says the action exhibited by the Teacher is intolerable and criminal.
She points out that regardless of who was wrong, violence at work should not be condoned hence the Law should take its course.
And gender activist Sara Longwe has expressed disappointment at the behavior of the teacher.
Ms Longwe stresses that the nation should believe that gender based violence affects more women than men.
She says the incident at Roma Girls Secondary School deserves serious attention, adding that the teacher deserves to be behind bars.
