FRUSTRATED of being called a barren woman, a Lusaka house wife stood up to her husband and questioned why he has failed to impregnate any of his lovers if he is man enough.
Gladys Kapopo told the court that her husband is fond of calling her barren yet she wonders how he has failed to impregnate his lovers if he claims not to have any fertility problem.
Kapopo of Kanyama who has been married since 2010 and has no children with her husband said she is fed up of her husband’s taunting that she should have had children by this time in their marriage.
This was heard before Justice Mukuka Ng’andwe in a case were she dragged her husband Aggrey Mubanga, 29, also of Kanyama to court for divorce.
Looking visibly put off, Kapopo told the court she no longer wants Mubanga as he had deserted her when she was sick for two weeks.
“Your honour, he would leave me alone at home early in the morning only to come back at night. Sometimes he would sleep out, saying he was at a friend’s place,” she lamented.
She also complained that Mubanga beats her badly, adding that one time she failed to walk for two weeks.
Kapopo explained that the reason he beat her is because she refused to pay the rent in protest to Mubanga who takes his money elsewhere each time he gets paid.
She said because of their never-ending marital woes, they decided to go separate ways and share household goods while Mubanga got their house, but to her surprise, he has been demanding she sells her share and split the proceeds between the two.
Kapopo said because of that, she decided to bring the matter to court but Mubanga has been bragging that even if she sues him, it won’t amount to anything as he never paid dowry.
And in his statement, Mubanga told the court he never paid any dowry and that it is true he got the house while they shared household goods.
But Justice Ng’andwe told Kapopo that because Mubanga did not pay dowry meant the two were not married.
He told her she is a free woman and even if Mubanga found her with another man, he cannot sue for adultery.
However, Justice Ng’andwe advised her to sue for share of the proceeds after selling the house.
